Sophos Anti Virus

Sophos Anti Virus protects your network, desktop and even remote laptop computers from the latest viruses. The quality of its award-winning technology has been confirmed time and time again by independent bodies.

Protecting the desktop means that regardless of how a virus attempts to break in (email, CD, floppy disk, network shares, instant messaging, web download etc) it can be stopped. Using patented InterCheck technology, Sophos's on-access scanner provides constant real-time protection with minimal system overhead.

Network servers can also be protected with scheduled or constant real-time scanning, ensuring there is no opportunity for a virus to spread or damage your company's data.

Using Enterprise Manager, Sophos Anti-Virus can be kept automatically up to date with protection against the very latest virus threats. The Enterprise Manager suite provides a set of tools allowing fully automated web-based installation and updating of Sophos software across a network and even to remote users, via Remote Update. Enterprise Manager also incorporates powerful reporting facilities.

Sophos Anti-Virus is available for all popular desktop and network operating systems, protecting laptops, workstations and servers.

The threat of viruses infecting PDAs and mobile phones has been widely hyped by some anti-virus companies. The fact is that there have never been any reports of viruses successfully infecting these kind of devices outside of laboratory conditions.

However, it is possible for PDAs to carry a virus into a company (thus avoiding any email gateway protection), and for the suspect file to be copied onto your desktop from the PDA.

Sophos Anti-Virus protects against this kind of infection through its on-access scanner, detecting any viruses transmitted when the PDA or mobile phone.

Mail Monitor - Protecting your email servers and gateways

Research shows that your business is more likely to receive a virus through your email server and gateway than via any other route.

Sophos MailMonitor can check all email traffic passing through your email server and inside your business, providing an extra layer of protection against mass-mailing worms and viruses. In this way viruses can be stopped at the gateway from entering your company network and spreading within.

Platforms supported

  • Notes/Domino
  • SMTP
  • Exchange*

In addition to real-time scanning in all versions, MailMonitor incorporates on-demand and scheduled scanning for Lotus Notes/Domino databases and mailboxes, and for Microsoft Exchange mailboxes and information stores.

Sophisticated threat reduction technology is built into MailMonitor for SMTP providing a powerful ability to prevent even new, unknown email-aware worms from entering your business without having to update your anti-virus solution.

*Currently supports Exchange 2000.

Enterprise Manager - Centrally managing your company's anti-virus, including automatically keeping your entire enterprise up to date

The Enterprise Manager suite is a powerful set of tools allowing fully automated web-based installation and updating of Sophos software across a network and even to remote users.

Network administrators are put in full control and can monitor their network at all times. Unprotected computers or those running an out-of-date version of Sophos Anti-Virus can be immediately and automatically updated. In practice, a network of 1000 or more clients can be updated from a single, central Windows machine within five minutes.

Further administrator support is provided by EM Reporter which clearly identifies vulnerable network points. It produces a range of instant, tailored reports on viruses detected on Windows desktops and servers across an organisation.

EM Reporter processes and stores virus alerts generated by Sophos Anti-Virus, then collates them to produce customised graphical and tabular reports that can be exported to several formats. These reports not only make the day-to-day management of Sophos Anti-Virus even simpler, but also extend the benefits of your organisation's investment in Sophos Anti-Virus.

The Enterprise Manager suite also includes Sophos's administration tool, SAVAdmin.

SAVAdmin enables system administrators to:

  • Install, configure and monitor Sophos Anti-Virus remotely.
  • Set up immediate or scheduled tasks and reporting.
  • Detect new workstations on the network and install Sophos Anti-Virus on them automatically.
  • Copy central installations of Sophos Anti-Virus to other servers or sites for use in installing and updating the software across a network.
  • Monitor Sophos Anti-Virus and access other computer details in real time.

Sophos even provides an easy way for remote workers (such as laptop users or employees based at their homes) to be kept up-to-date with their virus protection. Remote Update keeps Sophos Anti-Virus up to date on an end-user's computer via a website or network connection provided by their employer. It is ideally suited to employees of organisations who are infrequently, or never, connected to the main company network, but who do connect to the internet from time to time.
